Midland Hikers Virtual Art Show

MIDLAND HIKERS VIRTUAL ART SHOW
WE (STILL!) GET TO LIVE HERE

Today, Friday April 3, marks the date that our second annual Midland Art Show was to have taken place.

Never defeated, the artists in this group have gathered together to share with you a piece of art that they would have presented in that show. We are holding back and not showing you all we have prepared in the hope that we will one day soon be back in action and living life together...then we will have a huge celebration and art show IN PERSON!!

We hope you enjoy!

"Cloudscape #4"
18 x 22 inches
Black and White Photography

I’m intrigued with clouds that are close to the ground and
become more part of the landscape than a skyscape.
Because of our elevation and living in big sky country,
clouds descend into the landscape often after or before storms.
I’m looking for that image when clouds create an eerie illusion of you
floating above the ground yet your feet are firmly planted in the landscape.

"The Land is Silent Now"
5 x 7 inches
Painting with poem

The Land is Silent Now

The land is silent now
As if the owner were gone
Packed up somewhere warm
A dim starry light hovers like a lamp
Masquerading as presence
It may only be temporary
Or perhaps She is still there
Veiled in a subtle mosaic
Of golden spired meadow grass
Cuddling their seed
Till the time of letting go

The evergreen of pine
Like hope in a dark hour
Coal red burning
In the heart of winter limb
Snow white shadows peering
Out the dark of deeper still

Just know
A journey here is never trespassing
Presumption like concrete
Never the path
A mosaic of hints, these heart embers
Still aflame where almost forgotten
Seed waiting its time on wind
Perhaps the place to start

Arlene A. Walters Waldorf
Kumihimo Necklace
Braided necklace with aquamarine,
Swarovski beads, and sterling silver findings

Janet Lightburn
Sketch of Janet's younger sister, afflicted by autism, with poem.

Amazing Autism

If you watch her sit and stare,
Not connecting with her eyes.
You might think her soul is empty,
Not really alive.
Perhaps you may not know,
The whirlwind in her mind,
No shield from blinding sun,
Her words so hard to find.
But she sees deep into space,
Where things collide and burst,
She notes all the changes,
And keeps them rehearsed.
What others would ignore,
She can't forget,
If you try to fool her,
You'll surely regret.
While some create their look,
For an image less than true,
Her honesty is unmatched,
A sincerity shown by few.
If you think she's less,
How do you compare?
Her talents may be more,
If the rules were fair.
It’s quite a tragic loss,
If you don't try to know,
Her amazing heart and mind,
And the love she cannot show.
