New blog for Midland Hikers!

We get to live here!

Good morning, hikers! Joyce had the idea to create a blog for our Midland Hikers group. Given that I have some time on my hands, I thought I would create this blog for us to share hiking plans, ideas, needs, information, awareness, photos, videos, and more.

Here are Deb and our daughter, Caitlin, illustrating "social distancing" a while back on the beach in California. Yes, I know, not quite far enough apart, but almost!

I will try to post each day, and if any of you want to "guest post" please email me the text and a photo, and I'll get it posted.

Please be aware that I will be learning as I go with this blog, having never done this before, so please be patient with my inexperience!

How is your social distancing going? Does anyone need anything?

All the best to you, friends!

Michael

  2. Thanks Michael for picking up the ball and executing. Looks great as it turns out I started a blog last year on Wordpress and just found it. I have a poem that aired on CNN. Just have to find out how to add to the blog.

  5. The Great Decisions meetings at the library are cancelled but this alternative was offered for Thurs.

    Hi friends,

We’re going ahead with next Thursday’s Great Decisions discussion (U.S. Relations with the Northern Triangle of Central America) via the teleconferencing app ZOOM.

Starting at 4:30 we’ll spend about 15 minutes learning and practicing Zoom, then we’ll start the discussion. Please watch the FPA video on this topic beforehand.

Zoom is easiest to use on a laptop or desktop computer, but a tablet or smartphone also works. You can also call in from a regular phone; all the options are listed below.

If you’ve never used it, here’s a one-minute instructional video.

If you have trouble logging in next Thursday, email Cecilia LaFrance at clafrance@buenavistalibrary.org.

I have also forwarded the latest email I have received from FPA. They have now made the 2020 topics available on YouTube, which may be simpler to use than VIMEO.

    Hope to see you Thursday!

    Thanks,

    YouTube Release

Many participants from libraries to classrooms and houses of worship have asked to share this year's television series with their broader community during this public health crisis. We have decided to release this season of Great Decisions on YouTube to provide a single link to post online and share with your community.

During this period of isolation, groups across the country are using teleconferencing tools from Google Hangouts to Zoom to continue their discussions online. Please encourage your community to debate, discuss, and decide. In a democracy, it takes an informed public to inform policy.
